Toodles, Tumor!

Re-enactment of my MRI experience

The transition back home has been good. I have gotten over my cold and have been really careful to not get sick again.  Last Friday, Eric and I went into UCSF to have four MRIs and a doctor’s appointment to find out if the radiation worked and my treatment roadmap. Even spending 15 minutes in an MRI machine is pretty difficult, as it’s claustrophobic and hot, so spending three hours without being able to move is pretty hard on my body. While I don’t enjoy the procedure, I know it’s necessary to find out what’s happening under the hood. A MAACO for the human body, if you will. I’m happy to report that the MRIs don’t show the tumor anymore, which means the radiation worked (thank goodness). I’m so grateful for this news, but while I won this battle, I have yet to win the war. There is still potential for microscopic remnants of the tumor in my brain and spine, so I still have to do chemo to catch any small traces that may or may not be there.

The plan is to begin chemo in early December through September 2019 or so. Throughout that time the folks at UCSF will closely monitor my brain and spine through MRIs. Apparently I will have more of these procedures than I would like for probably the rest of my life, but if it means staying healthy, it’s all good. I did request splitting up the future MRI appointments across two days so that I can manage my back spasms. They will also monitor my bloodwork, hearing and any signs of neuropathy. I’m learning a lot of through this process, so I’m glad I have a very patient provider.

Once again, and I can’t say it enough, thank you all for the continued support, it means the world to me.
